Here are my favorite things I found around the internet this week:

  • You may have heard the WONDERFUL news that Gilmore Girls has FINALLY been added to Netflix Instant! Huzzah! My sister and I watched the series the first time around and decided to watch it all over again during Friday night dinners. And while the entire series is worth watching at least once, Gawker (along with several other websites) has created a guide to make the seven season viewing experience seem a little less daunting for the unsullied.
  • Gone Girl is opening this weekend and I’m pretty excited to see it. If you’ve read the book, this SPOILER FILLED review from NPR’s Linda Holmes may be worth checking out if you’re debating whether to dole out to see the movie.
  • This NYT article about the fear of happiness is really interesting and something I routinely contend with.
  • I’ve only read two books by Italo Calvino, but found both to be captivating. I’m excited to check out his posthumous collection.
  • If you’re a fan of Outlander (particularly, the wedding episode of Outlander), odds are that you’ve seen this article floating around the interwebs over the past week. But if not, it’s definitely worth a read.

Here are my favorite things I found around the internet this week:

  • Unless you were hanging out under a rock yesterday, you are probably aware that the much anticipated trailer for Fifty Shades of Grey made its debut:
  • Entertainment Weekly had a fun article comparing the trailer to the book. Not gonna lie, my interest is piqued.
  • Ira Glass discussed how he works in an article on Lifehacker. I really liked this bit:

Is there anything else you’d like to add that might be interesting to readers/fans?

I’d just say to aspiring journalists or writers—who I meet a lot of—do it now. Don’t wait for permission to make something that’s interesting or amusing to you. Just do it now. Don’t wait. Find a story idea, start making it, give yourself a deadline, show it to people who’ll give you notes to make it better. Don’t wait till you’re older, or in some better job than you have now. Don’t wait for anything. Don’t wait till some magical story idea drops into your lap. That’s not where ideas come from. Go looking for an idea and it’ll show up. Begin now. Be a fucking soldier about it and be tough.

  • A friend shared this article about book hoarding and I found it really relateable and interesting.
  • NPR had an interesting piece on the increasing profitability of self-publishing.
  • Why readers, scientifically, are the best people to fall in love with.
  • I really liked this BookRiot article on “How Reading Out Loud Almost Saved My Marriage.” I love reading to people and being read to. It’s probably part of why I loved Fangirl so much.
  • This week’s Pop Culture Happy Hour podcast features a really interesting conversation about geography (specifically the middle of the continental U.S.) and a few of my favorite authors.
  • The Rumpus featured an interesting take on the romance fiction genre & feminism.

Here are my favorite things I found around the internet this week:

  • I’ve been watching a lot of YouTube videos recently and my subscriptions list is skyrocketing. My current favorite channel is probably Marinashutup and I have lost count of how many times I’ve viewed this video. And I still laugh until I can’t breathe.
  • Speaking of laughing until I can’t breathe, these two best of vine videos put me in THE BEST MOOD the other day.
  • I’m not participating in the Booktubeathon by vlogging (maybe next year), but I am participating by reading my butt off, and I’ve really enjoyed watching everyone’s videos this week. And Booktube videos in general. Watching people get excited about reading is kind of the best thing.
  • A really great article on why libraries are not a “Netflix for books.”
  • Speaking of subscription services, Amazon announced Kindle Unlimited today.
  • I’m going to pat myself on the back for a moment. I’ve recently been combing through blogs that I’ve kept over the past decade in an effort to clean them up and close some of them. It was really interesting to see how my thoughts and writing have changed over time. I kept a travel blog of a backpacking trip I took weeks to Ireland, Scotland, England, France, Italy and Spain in 2011, and the idea of being finished with writing about the experience made me sad, so I let the blog linger. But doing so bugged me, so I finally put my grown ass woman pants on and finished it up this week. I also re-blogged some of my favorite personal posts on my life blog. It feels really good to not have my thoughts scattered all over the place.
