I wish I knew how to quit RHOC

A confession: my name is Kelley and I have faithfully watched Real Housewives of Orange County since its first episode.

*hangs head in shame*

For years it’s been a guilty pleasure, but this season is getting to me. Last weeks episode made me MAD. So mad that I proceeded to think about it for the rest of the week and even had a dream or two where I confronted Tamra Barney and gave her the ol’ punch to her see you next Tuesday.

Not my proudest moment, even if it didn’t actually happen. Actually scratch that. If it did really happy, I’d be a little proud. She is after all, THE WORST.

But dreaming about it? Just seemed a little odd.

And JUST LOOK at my Twitter feed!

These beeyotches have taken over.

Last night I found myself sitting on the couch and felt my blood pressure rising as Heather asked Tamra if they should call an ambulance for poor Shannon. (Yes, #TeamShannon forever and ever amen.)  I started to curse up a storm, fist shaking and the works, and after a while I asked myself, just what am I doing? I mean, what are they doing, obviously. But what am I doing? I should be reading or doing yoga or binging on my Netflix queue or just generally spending my time on happy things instead of getting worked up about a bunch of crazy women from Orange County.

It’s times like these when I ask myself, WWLVPD?

Actually, who am I kidding. This is what Lisa Vanderpump would do:

Ooh hate to leave paradise @StRegis@bahiabeach

Ooh hate to leave paradise

Basically I’m going to need these women to calm down before I start to question my own mental health for watching this mess.

Here are my favorite things I found around the internet this week:

  • I’ve been watching a lot of YouTube videos recently and my subscriptions list is skyrocketing. My current favorite channel is probably Marinashutup and I have lost count of how many times I’ve viewed this video. And I still laugh until I can’t breathe.
  • Speaking of laughing until I can’t breathe, these two best of vine videos put me in THE BEST MOOD the other day.
  • I’m not participating in the Booktubeathon by vlogging (maybe next year), but I am participating by reading my butt off, and I’ve really enjoyed watching everyone’s videos this week. And Booktube videos in general. Watching people get excited about reading is kind of the best thing.
  • A really great article on why libraries are not a “Netflix for books.”
  • Speaking of subscription services, Amazon announced Kindle Unlimited today.
  • I’m going to pat myself on the back for a moment. I’ve recently been combing through blogs that I’ve kept over the past decade in an effort to clean them up and close some of them. It was really interesting to see how my thoughts and writing have changed over time. I kept a travel blog of a backpacking trip I took weeks to Ireland, Scotland, England, France, Italy and Spain in 2011, and the idea of being finished with writing about the experience made me sad, so I let the blog linger. But doing so bugged me, so I finally put my grown ass woman pants on and finished it up this week. I also re-blogged some of my favorite personal posts on my life blog. It feels really good to not have my thoughts scattered all over the place.

Happy perusing and happy weekend!

Currently anticipating: Candidly Nicole

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1RRSKSxurEg

Earlier this year my sister told me about Nicole Richie’s web series on AOL, #Candidly Nicole, which started as an adaptation of her hilarious Twitter feed. If that sounds weird (and it kind of does), rest assured. It’s basically prompted but unscripted reality tidbits from her life as she embarks on new experiences.

Since finishing all of the episodes (in about two days) I’ve sporadically checked back to see when new episodes would post. What is happening now is even better. It’s a TV series!

It was hard to choose a single episode from the AOL series to give a little taste of the show, but this one is probably my favorite:

It premieres tonight on VH1!

Book Review: Landline by Rainbow Rowell

As a self-proclaimed Rainbow Rowell fangirl (see what I did there?), I pretty much counted down the days until I could get my hands on Landline.

Description from the publisher:

Georgie McCool knows her marriage is in trouble. That it’s been in trouble for a long time. She still loves her husband, Neal, and Neal still loves her, deeply — but that almost seems besides the point now.

Maybe that was always besides the point.

Two days before they’re supposed to visit Neal’s family in Omaha for Christmas, Georgie tells Neal that she can’t go. She’s a TV writer, and something’s come up on her show; she has to stay in Los Angeles. She knows that Neal will be upset with her — Neal is always a little upset with Georgie — but she doesn’t expect to him to pack up the kids and go home without her.

When her husband and the kids leave for the airport, Georgie wonders if she’s finally done it. If she’s ruined everything.

That night, Georgie discovers a way to communicate with Neal in the past. It’s not time travel, not exactly, but she feels like she’s been given an opportunity to fix her marriage before it starts . . .

Is that what she’s supposed to do?

Or would Georgie and Neal be better off if their marriage never happened

I really, really love the writing of Rainbow Rowell. Really love it.  I enjoyed Attachments and fell head over heels for Eleanor & Park and Fangirl, (seriously, spoiler alert: if I like you even a little, you’re getting both books for Christmas this year) (you’re welcome!) So my expectations were sky-high for Landline.

I’ll say right off the bat, I didn’t love it as much as E&P or Fangirl. But honestly, I don’t think I’ve ever loved another book as much as I loved those two (and I’ve read and loved a lot of books.) It’s still Rainbow Rowell, and therefore still an immensely enjoyable read with near-perfect dialogue and inspires all the feels.

My review will contain a few spoilers, so I’m going to advise that you read the book before you proceed with the rest of this post. And If you haven’t read any of her books, (I mean honestly, what are you even doing with your life?) I recommend reading Attachments, then Landline, then Eleanor & Park and finally, Fangirl. I’m sure many would argue that Eleanor & Park is her best (and being made into a movie with the screenplay by Rowell herself!), but frankly, you’re going to need a little pick me up after you finish it.

So! Onto my spoiler-ish review of Landline…
