Here are some of my favorite things I found around the internet this week:

  • I was perusing the Rookie archives and stumbled upon this article, which struck such a nerve. I find my confidence only grows as I get older, particularly when it comes to the way I dress and the things I like, but I still struggle to share my work and to be openly creative. I love to read others’ perspective on this and find that (as is pretty much always the case) I’m not alone.
  • If you’re a fan of Serial, you’ve probably read The Intercept’s interviews with Jay Wilds and prosecutor Kevin Ulrick and are aware of the controversy drummed up by the bizarrely adversarial tone of the interviewers and their petulant reaction to criticism on Twitter. This article sums up my reaction quite nicely.
  • Linda Holmes wrote a hilarious summary of the trailer for the upcoming J Lo flick, The Boy Next Door.
  • I read Still Alice a couple years ago and really enjoyed it. This profile of the upcoming film based on the novel has me really excited to check it out.
  • Miranda July has a new book coming out!
  • I’m a sucker for any article that links Fraggle Rock to literature.
  • Not something I found, but something happening this week: A couple weeks ago my husband and I were talking about classic films we really should have already watched and decided to make that a thing in 2015. I bought him this book for Christmas last year and we have yet to really try out any of the concoctions, so we decided to pair the two and host weekly movie nights for us and anyone else who would like to partake. We’re calling it “Classics & Cocktails” and tonight is the premiere! Our first selection none other than the crème de la crème of cinema, Citizen Kane.

Here are some of my favorite things I found around the internet this week:

  • Nanowrimo not only inspires me to frenetically write, but also to look up advice and words of wisdom from successful authors. I loved reading this interview with Emily Nussbaum (TV critic for the New Yorker), on Rookie.
  • I admitted earlier this week that I didn’t finish Friendship by Emily Gould because it didn’t hold my interest. So this article from the Atlantic on why you MUST finish books was a timely read. I kind of agree with aspects of the sentiment, but find myself leaning more toward this response article on BookRiot, titled “Reading is Not a Chore.” There are some books that I’m just never going to like and finishing them won’t help one bit.
  • The always delightful (and entertaining Tweeter) Neil DeGrasse Tyson provided an in depth look at Interstellar for NPR this week.
  • Hachette and Amazon finally struck a deal this week.
  • This is a seriously hilarious Serial parody.
  • The second trailer for Fifty Shades of Grey has been released, and it looks pretty steamy:

Here are some of my favorite things I found around the internet this week:

  • As an aspiring writer who works full time, I found this Rumpus article with Rainbow Rowell enormously inspiring.
  • I completely agree with this article from the New Yorker on how The Giving Tree is actually pretty freaking sad for a kid’s book.
  • I enjoyed these 17 Reasons Anne Lamott is the Coolest. Because she really is.
  • I enjoyed Linda Holmes’ take on managing expectations for the Serial podcast on the NPR Monkey See blog.
  • Speaking of Serial (since EVERYONE ELSE IS), Slate is doing an amusingly meta podcast on the Serial podcast. Yes, that’s right. It’s a podcast about a podcast.
  • Which brings us to this hilarious video about “How People Obsess About Serial.”

Okay, enough about Serial. (Until next week.)

Here are some of my favorite things I found around the internet this week:

  • I’m feeling pretty excited for Into the Woods thanks to this EW featurette.
  • In addition to raving about Serial earlier this week, I’ve already listened to the latest episode twice and the first episode all over again to hopefully derive more clues. My name is Kelley and I am addicted to this podcast.
  • I squealed when I saw that Rainbow Rowell contributed to a story collection. (I swear, I would pay to read that woman’s grocery lists.) But seriously, wouldn’t this make an excellent holiday gift? (Not a hint, those who know me, but rather a warning that this is likely what you’re getting for Christmas from me.)
  • Have you read anything from the 2014 National Book Awards list of finalists? I’ve read (and lovedAll the Light We Cannot See, and am really excited to read Lila
  • I really enjoyed learning about Christina of Sweden on Stuff You Missed in History Class.
  • I’m hosting an Awesomely Bad Movie Night this weekend that will feature pumpkin carving, and these bookish jack’o’lanterns serve as pretty fantastic inspiration.
  • This made me so happy that the internet exists. Because really, where else could you find Dachshund’s Creek?
